BCIU22's PA Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) Initiative-Coaching for Instructional Excellence!
For the 2016-17 School Year, The Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 continues for a fifth year to participate in The Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching (PIIC) initiative, a partnership of the Annenberg Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The PIIC Initiative works to build teacher capacity, through instructional coaching, as a means of increasing student engagement and improving student achievement. Carol Adams, an experienced literacy and leadership coach, continues to serve as the BCIU22 PIIC Coach Mentor to support our Bucks County districts.
Through one-on-one and small group support, Carol supports individual and teams of coaches as they look closely at data, customize literacy practices and participate in reflective conversations. This is done through the Before/During/After Model of Consultancy. The intention is to create a culture of coaching and open deeper and shared exploration of school/district initiatives and goals. Some coaching teams also participate in advance study of literacy and coaching via the Penn Literacy Network courses offered through the PIIC grant. The Bucks County participating districts and schools include: Council Rock: Council Rock High School- South; Bristol Township: Truman High School, Armstrong Middle School, FDR Middle School, Barton Elementary; New Hope-Solebury: New Hope-Solebury High School, New Hope-Solebury Middle School. All Districts are welcomed to join PIIC for the 2016-17 school year.
County-wide Support: In addition to the intensive support given to participating schools, monthly network coaching meetings are held for anyone whose job description includes supporting teachers to improve instruction. The coaching network meets to explore ways to deepen the BDA (Before-During-After) consultancy cycle, to examine literacy practices and to look more closely at state initiatives.
