Notice and Note: Creating Critical Readers through Close Reading In this session, we'll present six new during-reading strategies that help students -- especially those who struggle -- read increasingly complex texts with deeper understanding as required by the Common Core. We'll discuss how each strategy can be modified to be appropriate for fiction or nonfiction texts.

Guidelines For Teaching Chemistry & Guided Inquiry
Teachers will explore the new American Chemical Society Guidelines and Recommendations for Teaching High School Chemistry with one of its authors. Teachers will then gain some hands-on experience with Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) activities that they will be able to take away and incorporate directly into their classroom teaching. The evening will close with a short discussion on the new direction coming to the A.P. classroom and how the ACS and POGIL can play a role.
