Continuing Professional Education (CPE ) Course Instructors

Frequently Asked Questions

Periodically, the Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit # 22 requests proposals from potential instructors of CPE courses. The following questions represent those most often asked questions received from potential BCIU CPE course instructors. Will I be paid for planning and facilitating the course?

Yes! Instructors will receive a payment of $800 per credit for teaching a CPE course. As a result, a three-credit course will amount to $2400.

When would my course occur?

The courses would run throughout the school year and during the summer months and can be planned around the instructor"s schedule. After CPE courses are approved through a process, the instructor can note the best dates and times to facilitate the course. CPE Courses must occur after school hours and/or on weekends during the school year.

Do I need specific qualifications to act as a course instructor?

The Intermediate Unit is looking for individuals with expertise in various facets of education. As a result, potential instructors of CPE courses could include current and/or retired teachers and administrators.

What kind of CPE courses is the Intermediate Unit looking for?

The Intermediate Unit continuously offers courses spanning a large variety of topics. As a result, those topics which are current hot topics are most interesting, however, all proposals will be considered. Some possibilities include: Differentiated Instruction, Co-Teaching, Inclusive Practices, Collaboration, Technology Implementation, Best Practices, Global Education and/or ESL, Gifted Education, Diversity and many others.

How much time will I need to invest in this process?

Continuing Professional Education Courses consist of 14 in class hours per credit. An additional 16 hours of out-of-class assignments need to be planned per credit. As a result, a three-credit course would consist of 43 hours of face-to-face time. Additional planning time would also occur.

How do I submit a proposal?

It is easy! Simply click HERE to access the CPE Online Proposal Form. If you cannot complete the entire form in one sitting, don"t worry. Just click the cancel button at the bottom of the online form. Then, simply return to this same website using the same computer and click on "CPE Course Planner" again. All of your prior information will still be available for revisions. Nothing will be submitted until you click the "submit" button on the final page of the online form.

How will I know if my proposal is accepted?

Once you click the "submit" button on the final page of the online form, the BCIU Professional Learning Services at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit will receive your proposal. Your proposal is then reviewed by the Intermediate Unit"s Continuing Professional Education Council for approval. Then, your proposal is submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for final approval. During this entire process, the BCIU Professional Learning Services will be in contact with you regarding the status of your proposal.
