November 19, 2008

Many of you were able to enjoy Jennifer James" presentation, "Cultural Intelligence: Education in an Adaptive Environment," on November 19. In order to make Dr. James" thought-provoking presentation and her responses to questions accessible to all Bucks County educators, the Bucks County Intermediate Unit has collaborated with students from Middle Bucks Institute of Technology in the production of 5 video segments from her keynote address in Langhorne, PA.

Dr. James" Background
This video explores Jennifer James’ childhood experiences that compelled her to be curious about intolerance and how cultural beliefs interfere with reality.

What do our Kids Need?
Dr. James lists the needs of students as they move into a global future and identifies the role of the teacher and the school community in meeting these needs.

Telling a Compelling Story
Schools and educators need to tell a compelling story to the community and parents to gain their support for change. This segment identifies the three elements of a compelling story and why we should tell the story: to teach to the highest level.

Why Don"t We Think with Common Sense?
James identifies eight reasons why American education freezes in the headlights of change when it needs to bridge the gaps for our students.

How do you Get Teachers to Take a Risk?
In answering this question, Jennifer James outlines the process of change to help school leaders introduce new ideas, recognize the stages their teachers will go through, and react to these stages accordingly.
