Instructional Technology Overview
Over the past 15 years, the world has watched technology develop in exponential terms. Computers, cell phones, digital cameras, and other devices have become an integral part of our personal lives; the K-12 student has integrated these tools and devices to stay connected and engaged with the world around them. Likewise, the Internet has connected people worldwide and placed more information at our fingertips than ever before. Our challenge as educators is to find a place for these tools in the classroom and school environment and to teach our students how to navigate and manage these global connections.
The Instructional Technology component of IMRS focuses on helping educators incorporate emerging technologies into the classroom to facilitate student learning. We stress that technology is a tool to enhance learning, promote efficiency, and teach lifelong skills that will be needed in the future. Interactions with educators come in a variety of ways: through professional development opportunities both in schools and on-site at BCIU and by facilitating county-wide initiatives. Likewise, we facilitate regional council meetings for many levels of leadership to provide a forum of support, collaboration and conversation for our districts.
