Dr. Barry J. Galasso – Biography Bucks County IU Executive Director
Dr. Barry J. Galasso was appointed Executive Director of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) at a special meeting of the BCIU School Board of Directors on Tuesday, May 29, 2007. He assumed the position on July 1, 2007.
Since 2005, Galasso had served as the Executive Director of The New Jersey Association of School Administrators. He served as Superintendent of Schools for Eastern Regional School District in New Jersey from 1993 to 2005. His past experiences in New Jersey include serving as a School Superintendent in the Winslow Township School District for six years and the Berlin Borough School District for three years. As Superintendent of Eastern Regional School District, the district
continually ranked among New Jersey’s best. Its high school ranked in
the top 75 high schools in New Jersey for the last decade. As Executive
Director of New Jersey Association School Administrators, one of his
accomplishments was forming Regional and State partnerships to provide
high quality professional development for active and aspiring
educational leaders. In addition, his experience includes leadership and teaching at all levels of the education spectrum. He has taught elementary, middle school, high school, adult evening programs and county college courses in New Jersey.
“One of the reasons that made him such a strong candidate was his extensive experience in education,” said Carol Downs, BCIU Board President and representative for the Central Bucks School District. “Our Board was really impressed with his background. He has served as a teacher, a principal and a superintendent. We were also impressed with his experience working with the Legislature in New Jersey, and partnerships he has developed with businesses and organizations to enhance the training of staff. He is always focused on the needs of students.”
Galasso looked forward to his new role when he was hired. “The Bucks County Intermediate Unit offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with School Directors and outstanding educational professionals from 13 school districts, to develop, create and implement educational programs and provide professional development that enhances the school experience for the students of the county,” said Galasso.
Galasso received his Doctorate in Education from Rutgers University. In addition to his extensive educational experience, he has written several articles for various professional publications and co-authored the “Improving Teaching and Learning Textbook.” He has also facilitated presentations and given testimony to the New Jersey Legislature. Honors include receiving the Presidents Award from Rowan University and the Distinguished Service Award from the New Jersey Association of School Administrators. He has also been honored for his contributions to the University of Pennsylvania Superintendents’ Study Council.
