Welcome to Bucks County IU #22
Non-Public Speech and Language!

Bucks County IU

Speech and language services for students in non-public schools in Bucks County have been available
for many years through the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. The staff of Speech/Language Pathologists
currently provide these services to children in grades K-8 in 43 non-public schools throughout the county.

The non-public speech staff supports and encourages professional development for its members and makes
every effort to provide the most appropriate services to meet the needs of the non-public school population
with speech-language services.

Non-public SLP's evaluate students with articulation, language, fluency, and voice disorders. Students may
be referred by teachers, administrators, relevant school personnel such as nurses, counselors, and remedial
staff, and outside agencies. Input from the teacher as well as the parent may be requested by the SLP in order
to gain information regarding the child's strengths and weaknesses in the classroom as well as at home. The
student will then be conversationally screened to assist in determining the need for further evaluation. After
the screening and/or evaluation, parents are notified of the results and whether the student would benefit from
speech and/or language therapy.
