All adult team leaders, students, and parents should go directly to the room assigned for Round #1. Do not plan to meet in the lobby or hallway as space is very limited! Please read all information on the webpage as well the attachments carefully. If at all possible, please bring stopwatches with you to the event. The Committee will NOT provide any back-up moderators and scorekeepers. EVERY TEAM is required to arrive with two TEACHERS. If you fail to bring the requested two teachers, six OTHER teams would not be provided with proper staffing for the competition. This is unfair to the teams and puts a strain on the whole competition, so you must not under estimate the absolute necessity for every team to arrive with two teachers. Solving last minute emergencies is the responsibility of each building coordinator. In order to deal with any emergencies, you may want to recruit a few additional teachers to hold the date or to even join your group at the competition. This is especially important if you have a large number of teams! If you desire to have name tags or t-shirts for each student in your group, it is your responsibility to make or buy them. Students might enjoy designing their own to reflect their team name. Above all, remember that we are dealing with students and encouraging the love of reading. Every student participating is already a winner in his or her love of books. All individuals attending a competition (teachers, students, moderators, scorekeepers, parents, siblings, grandparents) should not bring food with them. The only beverage allowed is bottled water. This rule is meant to respect the host building facility and minimize distractions during the competition. Please know that your host building may choose to sell beverages and food at their discretion. In regard to the competitive element of Reading Olympics, participants should not have cell phones out during the competition. It is the responsibility of Team coaches to moderate the behavior of their students. Timetable for Activities Please arrive as close to 5:30 p.m. as possible to facilitate registration and get everyone settled in their rooms. Moderators and scorekeepers should report to the registration area for their room assignments and materials.
