BCIU speech-language pathologists and audiologists  participated in the Pennsbury School District 16th ANNUAL CAREER FAIR on Monday, February 27, 2012. The career fair is a district-wide, school-to-career event with emphasis on career exploration for all students, grades K-l2.  The speech-language pathologists and audiologists shared details of their career paths, including educational requirements and professional insight. They created visual boards depicting typical daily activities and responsibilities of their jobs, which elicited questions from visitors to the booth. It was a win-win event for all. The speech-language pathologists and audiologists provided information about diagnosing and treating communication disorders and hearing loss while the participants learned about potential career opportunities.

Nor'Wester Readers

Nor'Wester Readers is a Canine Assisted Learning Program out of Bucks County that provides certified therapy dogs along with handlers to work with teachers to work with students to improve academic, social and communication skills. Brandon has been coming into Neurologically Impaired class run by the IU at Afton for the past month. Cathy Larrick brings Brandon into the school once a week and one student is responsible for leading Brandon to the classroom. The students read to Brandon and have conversations about him. Therapy dogs used as patient listeners for kids can boost a struggling reader's confidence and self-esteem. One student said and signed the word "dog" for the first time while Brandon was visiting. Nor'Wester Readers is a wonderful program for any student!
