2013 “Educator In The Workplace” Application

The Bucks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) and The Bucks County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) as part of the continuing effort to help grow the partnership between business and education, is excited to offer two (2) creative educational options to educators in Bucks County.

Option #1 – Educator in the Workplace One-Week Experience

The Educator in the Workplace One Week Experience initiative places educators in a business for a 5-day program designed to foster a better understanding of the needs and expectations of employers in the21^st century. This placement will be arranged based on the schedule of the business and educator during the summer of 2012. Educators will act as an “Ambassador” for the particular occupation/industry. Educators will have the opportunity to interact with business and industry to gain a comprehensive overview of economic and workforce development within Bucks County. Educators will experience and observe the skills required for workplace success and will learn how to implement work-based learning into their lesson plans. Educator will provide an electronic journal of the week long experience and will create lesson plans based from their experience to integrate workplace skills into the general curriculum.

The educator will receive a $250 stipend and fifty (50) Act 48 hours. Ten (10) Educators will be chosen.

Option #2 – Educator in the Workplace-One Day Experience

The Educator in the Workplace One Day Experience initiative places educators in a business for one-day interning/job shadowing in an employment setting of their choice during this school year until June 2012. Educators will create one lesson plan based from their experience to integrate workplace skills into the general curriculum. School districts/IU will be reimbursed by the BCIU $100 for the cost of a substitute that will be needed during the educators absence.

The educator will receive a $50 expense check to pay for a business lunch with the supervisor at their respective internship/job shadow site and ten (10) Act 48 hours. Ten (10) Educators will be chosen.
