TIME LINE FOR PLANNING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

SENIOR YEAR

  •     In September, schedule a college planning conference with your counselor. Decide whether an early decision application is appropriate. Review transcript with counselor to make sure everything is in order.

  •     Stay involved, with extracurricular activities.

  •     Register for fall testing before December if needed. List colleges who should receive scores at time of registration.

  •     In the fall, meet with college admissions representatives that visit the high school.

  •     Finish any campus tours.

  •     If you plan on participating in sports in college, visit the following website:

  •     http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.net/ncaa/NCAAI common/index.html and register with the NCAA.

  •     Research scholarships through the counseling office and by using websites such as www.finaid.com and www.fastweb.com Ask colleges about scholarships for which you may qualify.

  •     Discuss the college essay with an English teacher or your counselor.

  •     File your applications, either by mail or electronically, early in you senior year in order to receive the most favorable consideration from the colleges. Thanksgiving is suggested as a good deadline for first choice applications. All other applications should be completed prior to December vacation (deadline for transcripts is the beginning of December). It is your responsibility to pay attention to deadlines. Remember 15 working days are required for transcript requests.

  •     Request either by mail or online that SAT scores be sent directly to the colleges of your choice for an "official" score report. For more information go to www.Collegeboard.com

  •     Print extra copies or photocopy every application that you send.

  •     Penn State applications should be filed as early as possible after the start of the school year. Although PSU deadline is November 30, applications are processed as soon as they are complete.   Standardized tests scores (SAT and/or ACT) must be sent directly from the testing center. Failure to do so will delay your application process.
