TIMELINE FOR PLANNING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

SOPHOMORE YEAR

  • Take the PSAT's. This test will help prepare you for the SAT I and will help identify weaknesses. Testing occurs in October.
  • Continue to research careers. If confused, meet with your counselor to complete a Career Interest Inventory.
  • Continue to research colleges arid become familiar with general college entrance requirements. Visit www.collegeboard.com;  www.petersons. com;     www.coin3.com
  • Meet with your counselor to discuss course selection.
  • Visit the career/college center in the counseling office to use the resources that are available.
  • Attend local college fairs including the National College Fair in Philadelphia.
  • Get involved in activities outside of the classroom. Work toward leadership positions in the activities you like the best. Become involved in community service and other volunteer activities. Colleges like to see focus and commitment.
  • Consider taking SAT II Subject tests in the courses you took this year while the material is still fresh in your mind. These tests are offered in May and June.
  • Keep your grades up.
  • Read, read, and read.
