The Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit Strategic PlanIn order to be successful and thrive as an educational service agency, The Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit (BCIU) needs to be positioned to respond to the needs of it school districts in a timely, effective manner. Organizationally, the BCIU must have systems in place to be attentive to the educational issues of importance to its clients and be prepared to take action and employ its resources accordingly. To systematically address this need, the BCIU has been involved in Strategic Planning since 1990.During 2005, the BCIU conducted its most current Strategic Planning update. The Planning Committee met over a two-day period in the spring to update the strategic plan. The thirty-five-member team was comprised of a representative group of BCIU staff, school board members, parents, school district staff, business and community leaders. During that period, they revised the following components of the plan. • Mission • Beliefs • Goals • Objectives • Strategies After the completion of that planning session, Action Teams were formed for each strategy to identify specific results and develop Action Plans that related to the strategies. Specific results are written as objective, measurable statements with the Action Teams responsible for defining the results and determining action steps or key activities for each specific result. These teams were also comprised of a representative group of BCIU staff, school board members, parents, school district staff, business and community leaders. The Action Teams have representatives of the Planning Team, but include new stakeholders to broaden the knowledge of the plan. This part of the process took five months to complete. At the completion of the Action Teams work, the Planning Team met to review the specific results and action steps that had been developed. The Plan was approved and adopted by the Bucks County Schools Intermediate Unit Board of School Directors in the fall of 2005. |
