Site-Based Professional Development
for Members of the Math & Science Collaborative
Are you interested in bringing math or science professional development to your school? Professional development can be tailored to meet your school's needs, and to fit into your school's schedule.
What kind of professional development is most effective?
Recent research has re-defined effective professional development. In this new definition, "fly-by" or "one-shot" workshop approaches are rejected in favor of a job-embedded, systemic approach to professional development. Specifically, professional development should be part of a school's improvement plan and mission. The content of professional development is focused on student learning and deepens teachers' content and pedagogical knowledge. Research highlights the use of professional learning communities as one of the most effective ways for teachers to engage in sustained, job-embedded, collaborative professional learning.
The Math & Science Collaborative supports this new definition of professional learning by working collaboratively with schools to design professional development that is tailored to meet the school's needs.
